Behold your God!

"...lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!" Isaiah 40:9

How many times has the Lord answered a prayer and when you gave God public praise something else happens that makes you wonder if it was truly God working in your life? If this happens too many times, the devil wants to get us to thinking that the next time God intervenes in a situation we need to hold God's goodness in with bated breath, in hopes that this time the "good" will stick with us.

I like how Isaiah, with triumph in his voice cheers us on. He says, let them hear. Don't be afraid, tell everyone you meet that this is the handiwork of God. He is capable in every situation. Just stand back and take a look at who your God is. The next verse says, "Behold, the Lord God will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him.." As we contemplate God's greatness we will see that the God that has measured the water of this world in his hand is surely capable enough to take care of our situations.

As we praise God for his answers to our prayers, let us keep "Beholding our God" when the next situation slams into us. His hand will visit us with strength and bring victory in that situation as well, when we continue to stay upon the greatness of God and his strength. The New Testament's version of the thought, "Behold your God!" is found in Hebrews 12:2 "Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith;" As we keep beholding (looking to) God, the one who helped us in the beginning, we are able to trust that God is committed to helping us until our goal of heaven is reached.
