Wild and Wonderful Weekend

I had the privilege of going away for the weekend with my Mom and sisters. No school, no cleaning, no cooking, no fights to referee and no crying.
We went to Lancaster, PA. My sister, Dixie and I left Thursday evening from Indy around 5:45pm to go to Mom's. We figured we would arrive somewhere between 11:00 and 12:00. Much to our surprise and dismay we ran into a snowstorm. At first it was nothing to be concerned about, but the snow kept coming. I presume the snow plows had been put up for the winter or the storm caught them by surprise because we soon were driving on roads reminiscent of childhood days in Pennsylvania (and we were still in Indiana!) And those signs that seem so silly "Bridge freezes before road" we found to be true after all. With no salt or sand to be seen those bridges and overpasses became a thing of icy and treacherous domain.
Creeping along at 20 mph, slipping and sliding, and being blinded by snow and ice thrown by truckers almost made me wish I was refereeing those fights back home.
Our night's sleep at Mom's was to be truly shortened. We didn't arrive in Salem, OH until around 2:00 am.
In the morning, with fear and trembling, as well as with another passenger, we started the second leg of our journey. Thank the Lord, the snow had lifted and Pittsburgh didn't get the snow they were calling for. We thought that taking back roads would get us there faster, well we found out that wasn't true. The 6 hour trip to Lancaster took us close to 11 hours. Two of those hours were legitimate, though. We stopped at Lee's headquarters in Gettysburg, went to the Military Park and Museum. Had only a half an hour there before closing. We then went to the three of the battlefield sites.
We finally arrived in Lancaster, Pa around 7:30pm. We were ready for those long talks, sleepless nights and refreshing irresponsibility.
Well, I'd better quit rambling for now before I have another sleepless night.
